Mud Covered Productions visited Mountainside in May of this year. We brought the Free Rock Nationals to Gladsen Alabama having never seen this park for ourselves. The park is young, only three years old, but it has great trails. Occupying around one hundred acres of mountain close to the Georgia line, the park is a trail lover’s dream for intermediate wheeling. A large open area called “The Play Ground” greets drivers at the top of the entrance near the camping sites (all camping in bare bones, tents or small pop ups). This park boasts some of the best rocks in the south east. With trails like “loose nuts” and “WTF” on the extreme side, providing plenty of hair razing, panel crunching rides to ”Laid Back” and “EZ Up” for the lesser built rigs.
The Town of Gladsden is an easy five minute drive from the park and has hotels, fast food, and parts stores. The amazing thing is that after three years the town barely knows the park is there. Mountain side has done a great job in blending with the town. As a result they don’t have the friction from local government that some parks have to deal with. We have been to town where we got the cold shoulder from locals. This was far from the case in Gladsden. The park has recently come under new management and there are promises of even more park upgrades and a focus on giving back to the community, a focus that more parks would do well to share. We look forward to going back in May of 2011 and hope to see you there! See you on the trail.
